Understanding What Lies Behind Your Pain

Perhaps you are feeling constantly low, or anxious about something, or feeling angry a lot of the time and might have a low opinion of yourself and struggle to find self-confidence. There is a ‘root cause’ which the counsellor helps you to understand.

Psychodynamic therapy explores the significance of earlier life experiences in shaping our psychological development and our relationships as adults. We will explore your past – and look at the present – to better understand past events, how they are remembered or re-lived, and what effect they may still be having, so that we can understand your present thoughts and what lies behind them. We all have experiences that shape how we think, feel and behave in the here-and-now. Making links between the present and the past will allow us to understand where certain emotions come from; through the process, we learn new ways to move forward.

Relational

While the therapeutic approaches I use vary, (CBT and Solution Focused Therapy). I believe the relationship between us, is ultimately the key to therapeutic change. It is my hope that through working together, alongside you, counselling can help bring relief from emotional distress.

I believe it is the therapeutic relationship we develop together, namely the dynamic that emerges which provides insight and an understanding of how we relate to ourselves, other people, and the wider world.

Compassionate

Compassion is a requirement, to tell ourselves the truth about our lives, because the truth can be painful. All our sufferings come from an attempt to avoid the truth.

My work is driven with compassion and integrity and will sensitively explore your past and present circumstances, to better understand how past events are remembered or relived.
